What is the personal year?
Numerology reads time in cycles of nine years. Every year of your life sits somewhere in that cycle, and that position carries a colour: the 1 opens, the 5 shakes things up, the 9 clears the account. The personal year does not predict events, it describes a tone and the questions that keep coming back. Read it as context, alongside your life path, which gives the overall direction.
How do you calculate your personal year?
The calculation follows the life path, with one difference: the birth year gives way to the year in progress.
Take the day and month of birth
They never change and are kept as they are. The 14th stays 14, March stays 3. The birth year plays no part in this calculation.
Reduce the current year
Add up the digits of the year you are looking at. For 2026: 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10.
Add, then reduce
Sum the three values, then add the digits of the total until a single digit is left.
Day 14, month 3.
Target year: 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10
14 + 3 + 10 = 27
2 + 7 = 9. The personal year is 9.
The nine-year cycle
A year 1 opens a cycle: this is the time for beginnings, where you set down what will carry the next eight years. The 2 asks for patience and works on ties, the 3 frees expression, the 4 builds and consolidates, the 5 breaks routine and moves the lines, the 6 brings back responsibility and home, the 7 invites withdrawal and reflection, the 8 delivers and harvests, the 9 settles up and clears out before the next cycle. A year 11 or 22 reads as its reduction, only more intense.
Personal year and life path: not the same thing
Both are worked out almost identically, which is where the confusion comes from. The life path uses your birth year and holds for a lifetime: it is your trajectory. The personal year uses the current year and holds for twelve months: it is the weather. Two people born on the same day and month, thirty years apart, have different life paths but the same personal year.

Does the personal year change on my birthday?
Depending on the school, no. The method used here changes the personal year on 1 January, along with the calendar year. Other traditions switch it on the birthday: if you find a different result elsewhere, this convention is usually why.
Does my birth year count in the calculation?
No, and that is what separates the personal year from the life path. Only the day and month of birth are used, together with the target year. Two people born on 14 March, in 1960 and in 1990, therefore share the same personal year.
Can a future year be worked out?
Yes, the calculation works for any year: replace the current year with the one you are interested in. That is in fact the most common use at the end of a year, to prepare the next one.
